Adrien Broner warns Ryan Garcia “don’t go messing” with Tank Davis

By Adam Baskin: Adrien Broner says doesn’t think Ryan Garcia should “ever” fight Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. Broner says he’s got a lot of love for Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) and advises him to “leave the dude alone.”

Ryan, 23, hasn’t fought the type of opposition as a pro to adequately prepare himself for a fight against WBA ‘regular’ lightweight champion Tank Davis (27-0, 25 KOs).

There’s a chance that Ryan will return to the lightweight division to take on Tank for his title later year if the fight can be negotiated.

Ryan is in such a hurry to get the Tank Davis fight, which makes some boxing fans believe that he’s desperate for a payday before he gets exposed at 140.

It doesn’t help that Ryan says he wants to retire by age 26, as that leaves him little time to develop like other fighters.

“I don’t think Ryan should ever get in the ring with Tank,” said Adrien Broner to Cigar Talk. “Yeah, the crazy thing is, I got of love for you, Ryan.

“Ryan, call me. I’ll talk to Ryan. You got to understand; I really got relations with all these fighters. When Ryan was going through all that s***, he called me. I’m not going to talk what we talked about

“I just feel like he doesn’t need to go nowhere near Tank at this point of his career. I know it’s a big fight for boxing, but I just don’t think you need to go in with Tank right now.

“Listen, bro. Don’t go messing with the dude [Tank Davis]. Leave the dude alone right now,”  said Broner.

“Look, everybody is eager about that fight. That’s the only fight that Ryan wants, and that’s the only fight that Tank wants,” said Oscar De La Hoya to Fight Hub TV about the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight.

“We’re talking. It’s a great start. To get to talk to the other side it’s a great start. So, we want the fight; that’s the bottom line.

“As negotiations continue, maybe we’ll release something, but in the meantime, we’re keeping everything hushed because we want to surprise everybody with a super fight later on this year,” said De La Hoya.
