The much anticipated rematch between Italian super middleweights Giovanni De Carolis (31-10-1) and Daniele Scardina (20-1), that was set for January 27 in Milano, is postponed and will now go ahead on March 3 but the site remains the same.

De Carolis won their first fight with surprising ease and for Scardina a win looks like a must. The promoter, OPI since 82, has built the fight as “Repeat or Revenge”.

De Carolis is also the mandatory challenger for the EBU title held by Kevin Lele Sadjo but there’s no date yet for that fight.

Former Italian welterweight champ Gianni Molesini has passed away the age of 71, reports Boxeringweb. Molesini fought professionally from 1972 through 1979 with a record of 33-2-2. His career was cut due to chronic hand injuries. He held the national title for over two years and beat the likes Paolo Zanusso, Italo Venturi and Tommasso Marucci but lost to Pierangelo Pira and Domenico Di Jorio.

Swiss super lightweight Alain Chervet (17-2-2) closed out his career on December 26 in Berne when he knocked out Glenn Bismanso (7-3-4) in the first round.

This was Alain’s first fight for three years. His uncle was the great flyweight Fritz Chervet, who 50 years ago on the day (Dec 26) outscored Paul McCluskey over 15 rounds to retain the EBU title.

Three American fighters showed up in Moscow for Christmas and fought on a show December 25. Cruiserweight Joel Shojgreen (14-4) was stopped in the first against Soslan Aslanov (2-0).

Both Elvis Leon Brito and John Michael Escoboza made their debuts in professional boxing and lost. Brito was outscored by Samat Abdyrakhmanov (3-3) while Escoboza was stopped by Khaibula Musalov (3-0).

It would be interesting to know how the Americans made it to Moscow, who issued their licenses and gave them permission to fight.
