Team Ennis Open To Roiman Villa Showdown: “I Think Everybody Wants To See That”

Having nurtured and guided Jaron “Boots” Ennis to prominence, Bozy Ennis, his father, and trainer, believes that he’s ready for the best of the best.

Although the duo have failed to lure the welterweight division’s elite into the ring, the pair have taken what they can get. Most recently, the fast-rising contender out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, took care of business against Karen Chukhadzhian on January 7th, in Washington D.C. Although he was unable to close the show before the sound of the final bell, Jaron would go on to outclass his man, resulting in him snagging the IBF 147-pound interim crown.

One fight prior to Jaron outdueling Chukhadzhian, Rashidi Ellis stepped onto the stage. The offensive dynamo, despite being heavily favored, found himself in a dogfight against Roiman Villa. At one point, Ellis appeared to be on his way to a lopsided decision win on the judge’s scorecards. That is until the rough and rugged Argentinian applied mind-numbing pressure.

As the normally sturdy defense of Ellis began to break down, Villa punctuated his comeback win in the final frame, sending Ellis to the deck on two separate occasions.

Watching carefully in the back room, team Ennis was shell shocked as to what took place. Yet, with Ellis having his undefeated record stripped away, Villa (26-1 24 KOs) has seemingly provided the Ennis crew with a clear-cut opponent for their next outing.

“I’m thinking it’s gonna be the kid that beat Rashidi Ellis,” said Bozy to YSM Sports Media when asked who he believes his son will face later this year. “Roiman Villa. I think that everybody wants to see that.”

Thanks to his victory over Ellis, Villa’s win streak now extends to seven bouts. While impressed, Jaron would rather stray away from Villa and move straight into a showdown against unified champion, Errol Spence Jr.

His wishes, of course, are unlikely to be granted. The powerful southpaw could instead be moving up a weight class to take on Keith Thurman. Should he preserve his undefeated record, Spence may then revisit an undisputed clash against Terence Crawford.

If a title shot continues to elude team Ennis, Bozy reveals that they’d be more than willing to square off against someone else, as long as they’re considered one of the very best.

“It might be (Yordenis) Ugas,” continued Bozy. “If not Ugas, anybody in the top four, top five in the IBF.”
