Ellie Scotney World Title Date To Move To June 10

Ellie Scotney will get her shot at a world title –– albeit later than planned.

The Catford super-bantamweight is due to get her date with destiny on June 10.

Scotney, who is trained by Shane McGuigan, will now fight Cherneka Johnson in a challenge for the IBF world title on a show in London, which BoxingScene.com understands will be announced in full in the coming days.

She was scheduled to box ‘Sugar’, from Australia, on May 20, exclusively live on DAZN, as part of the supporting cast to Chantelle Cameron’s defense of her IBF, IBO, WBC, WBA and WBO world super-lightweight titles against the current undisputed queen at lightweight Katie Taylor at the 3 Arena in Dublin, Ireland.

But earlier this month, Scotney said she had been pulled from the event because of Cameron’s experiences with Scotney’s coach Shane McGuigan.

Cameron, who was coached by McGuigan until 2019, did not go into detail about her issues with him, but said she had signed a non-disclosure agreement.

It was revealed on Thursday that the fight between Scotney and Johnson (15-1, 6 KOs) –– who was last in action at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne last October when she defended her title against Susie Ramadan by unanimous decision –– has been signed and the Crystal Palace fan expressed her delight at the news, responding to a tweet of confirmation from her promoter Eddie Hearn.

“Delayed, not denied,” Scotney said in response to Hearn’s revelation that the fight was a done deal and will be moved to three weeks later rather than scrapped altogether.

BoxingScene.com understands that the show will land at the OVO Arena in Wembley and will be screened on DAZN, with an official eliminator for the British super-featherweight title between Youssef Khoumari and former Commonwealth featherweight champion Reece Bellotti expected to be placed on the same bill.
