Alex Krassyuk, promoter for WBO, IBO, IBA, IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, has indicated that his boxer’s mandatory defense, against Daniel Dubois, could potentially take place in Poland.
The mandatory clash is targeted to take place in the summer.
Usyk had tried to finalize an undisputed fight with WBC world champion Tyson Fury – but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement on the monetary terms.
The WBA would then order Usyk to comply with his mandatory obligation to Dubois, who holds the WBA’s “regular” title at the weight.
No location or date has been finalized, but Krassyuk revealed on social media that he was holding meetings with the head of Knockout Promotions, Poland’s leading fight promoter, to discuss the scenario of staging Usyk-Dubois in the country.
“Seeing my brother Andrzej Wasilewski to explore the opportunities for Usyk vs Dubois in Poland this summer,” Krassyuk stated.
The 25-year-old Dubois has a record of 19 wins, with 18 by knockout. His sole defeat came at the hands of Joe Joyce, due to fractured orbital bone, back in 2020.
In his last fight against Kevin Lerena, Dubois suffered a leg injury which led to three knockdowns. Dubois was able to weather the storm and stopped Lerena in the third.
Dubois is promoter by Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions. Warren also had a good working relationship with Knockout Promotions.
Usyk, an Olympic gold medal winner who unified the entire cruiserweight division, is riding high after banking back to back decision wins over Anthony Joshua.
