Danny Williams Withdraws From Fight, Leaves Opponent in Ring

Big Danny Williams was in Hameln, Germany, this weekend and was all set to take Gueney Artak for the GBA version of the International German heavyweight title.

Williams weighed in and everything seemed to be fine during fight day as well – or so it seemed.

However, with Artak and the referee waiting in the ring – Williams refused to go through with the fight. He was complaining of headaches and left the crowd of about 1,000 without a main event.

In what became the main event, Granit Stein won the WBU light heavyweight title with a win over Wilmer Gonzales.

In Helsinki, super bantamweight Jose Antonio Lopez Romero (12-0-1) tuned up for bigger fights during 2020 with a six round points win over Dmytro Kostenko.

Lopez Romero, from Spain but based in Finland since a few years, is along with Jason Cunningham co-challengers for the vacant EU 122 lb title. The EBU have set January 9 as deadline for purse bids or agreements.

Former EBU welter champ Rafal Jackiewicz had his last fight Saturday night in Zyrardow (Poland). He won by beating Sebastian Skrzypczynski and not only that – he had two more contests the same night, one in MMA, and one in full contact kickboxing – winning both. The 42-year old Jackiewiez retires with a 51-26-2 record – in professional boxing that is.

Cruiserweight Tervel Pulev, the younger brother of Kubrat, beat DeShon Webster in Plovdiv (Bulgaria) and won the vacant WBA Int´l title. It was scored 118-110 twice and 120-108. Tervel is now 15-0 and was an excellent amateur but may have turned pro too late.

On the undercard Romanian heavy Bogdan Dinu stopped big South African Osborn Machimana, who was retired by his corner in the fifth and lightheavy Spas Genov outscored Levan Shonia over eight..
